Tapping into all of El Dusty’s influences, the new mixtape is a culmination of his talents and collaborative spirit that span genres from cumbia, dembow, reggae, dancehall, hip hop and R&B beats. Americano Beat Tape Vol. 1 captures the burgeoning underground scenes across North America from Mexico to Florida to present a soundtrack of the Latinx experience. Many of the tracks were produced with El Dusty’s longtime friend and collaborative producing partner, Latin Grammy award winning producer and engineer Mariano Hererra who, alongside El Dusty, launch the new label. Additional songs included, were co-produced with Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas) –Grammy winning and nominated for Best New Artist 2019 – and off the Austin based hip hop act Third Root’s LP Passion of the Poets. And Clips x Ahoy’s (LOCOS Only) adds in his production flavor which fuels Miami’s club scene.
Featured artists include Soulfiya’s blend of reggae, soca and dancehall. The Americano label artists represent the sounds coming out of Southern Texas today with Meta’s deep groove, and Quentin Arispe’s upbeat anthems. Crooked Stilo adds in their signature cumbia urbano to the mix, a unique blend that captures the scenes coming out of L.A. and South America, and the rising star Deltatron weaves in his version of Organic Electronica dance music coming out of Latin America.
The Latin Grammy nominated composer, arranger and ringmaster, Dusty is considered by some to be the inventor of Cumbia Electronica. With the launch of the tastemaker imprint, Americano Label, El Dusty has been focusing on producing original music with well know and emerging artists. So far the success of the new materials has garnered critical acclaim with tastemakers like KUTX who called him “legendary,” Rolling Stone has said he is at the “Forefront of nu-cumbia” and Billboard claimed “ [he is] creating a new and distinctly Latino sound.” As Corpus Christi’s leading man he has been feeding cumbia into his sound processor and synthesizer before the turn of the millennium as he translates the Southern Texas border experience into new anthems where the MPC2000 sampler and chopped clips of Latin and reggae music history collide.
Americano Beat Tape Vol. 1 is out now digitally and will be available as a cassette tape, limited run, numbered and signed.
