Following up the release of their explosive initial singles ‘Gold’, ‘Snowfall’ and ‘The War’ over the last year, which have since gone onto receive airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio London, named as Jack Saunders’ New Wave, and found praise from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Fault Magazine, The Most Radicalist, Atwood Magazine and Record of the Day, indie-psych heroes Hi Frisco have now returned to unveil their latest vibrant offering ‘Headspin’ ft. Charlotte Spiral on August 25th, lifted from their forthcoming debut album ‘Goodbye, Blue Monday’.
Much like their output to date, ‘Headspin’ continues that bold and atmospheric energy the pair look to bring to everything they create. Filled with bright and psychedelic texture and married with a sweeping vocal performance from Charlotte Spiral’s Amy Spencer, this new release shows a solid depth to their sound and creates a vivid and technicolour return throughout.
This new collaboration marks the first new cut from Charlotte Spiral since their highly-praised debut EP ‘Ideal Life’, which landed in February.Speaking about the new offering, Hi Frisco said, “Headspin was a song we’d had demo’d for a while but got round to recording it quite late in the album process. In our heads it was supposed to sound like a cross between LCD Soundsystem and the Shirelles but kind of mutated into its own thing, part low slung groove with coldwave synths and part doo wop harmonies and crooner ish lead vocals.
“Lyrically it’s a love song that was always written to be a duet offering the view of a defiant relationship, struggling against the anxiety and stress of modern life from both perspectives. We spent a while trying to find the right person to match up with the imagined voice in our heads, luckily our friend Alice introduced us to Charlotte Spiral and she more than delivered.”
Along with their previously unveiled tracks ‘The War’ and ‘Gold’, ‘Headspin’ has been lifted from the band’s eagerly-awaited debut album ‘Goodbye, Blue Monday’, which is set to land on October 9th. Their first collection looks to explore the many avenues that the psychedelic sound has to offer as they look to create a bright and soaring initial offering that will cement them as one of the most captivating new acts of the year so far.
